David Paul Sweigert, Sr. ObituaryDAVID PAUL SWEIGERT, SR., 69 of Fawn Grove, PA, passed away on Monday, January 27, 2025 in his home. He was the beloved husband of Sandra Jean (Williams) Sweigert, and they had 50 years of marriage.
Born on September 20, 1955 in Lebanon, PA, he was a son of the late Harvey Eugene Sweigert, Jr. and Helen Elizabeth (Sanders) Sweigert. David worked for Bethlehem Mines Division of Bethlehem Steel at Millard Quarry in Annville PA, starting in the 1970s until 1988. He obtained both CDL truck and Commercial Inspection License in 1989. He then worked for a short time at Weber's Saw Mill as a truck mechanic. Dave returned to Bethlehem Steel at Steelton Plant in Steelton PA followed with employment at the Sparrows Point plant in the tractor shop in MD until 2005.
David had worked as a mobile heavy equipment mechanic, first for Dixie Construction in MD until October 2006 then for Kinsley Construction until retiring in May of 2023 after nearly 16 years. Although, he had been employed as a mobile equipment mechanic, he always enjoyed working on cars in general, especially restoring the older cars and had a fondness for the classic Chevys. For a short time, David had crafted some bodywork and painting. He enjoyed working in his yard and especially in the large vegetable garden with his wife for many years. He loved planting in the spring and mowing the yard. He also had a collection of radio control airplanes and cars and enjoyed building them.
Before moving to York County in 1997, he had been a volunteer firefighter at several fire companies in Lebanon County and was a volunteer ambulance driver and EMT. David attended Gospel Center Church in Lebanon and Sandhill United Church of Christ in Christian Union in Lebanon. Once he moved to York County, he joined the United Methodist Church and had worshiped at the Bryansville and at Delta United Methodist Churches.
David enjoyed the Renaissance Faire at Mt Hope and trips to zoos. He loved pizza and steak sandwiches! But his favorites were spring and summer barbecues with the family, grilling hamburgers, steaks and shrimp, and loved traditional Pennsylvania cooking- Sticky buns, streusel topped cherry pies, sausages and pork with sauerkraut were among his favorites. He loved going out for big breakfasts with his kids as they were growing up and continued this family tradition taking his grand kids to breakfast on Saturday mornings.
David loved old horror movies- Dracula, Frankenstein, The Mummy as well as Abbott and Costello, Benny Hill, Dean Martin songs and constantly listened to music, mostly rock. He was well known for telling jokes, life stories and making people laugh. Most of all, he enjoyed the time he spent with family, coworkers and friends
In addition to his wife, he is survived by: five children: David Paul Sweigert, Jr. (Stacy) of MD, Dale Leighton Sweigert (Lacy) of PA, Stacia Nichole Sweigert of PA, Kaycee Lee Growney (Shawn Pierpont) of NC and Austin Blake Grownley of NC. Three grandchildren: Arianna-Zaine, Lilly Winter and Willow Melody. He was preceded in death by all of his siblings: Robert, Ken, Terry, Jonathan, Phyliss and Dolly.
At this time, no services have been scheduled.
