It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of David John Szykowny, who died on September 2, 2025, from complications of a bike accident on July 12, 2025. He was surrounded by his loving family and friends.

Dave was a man of many talents and passions. He was known for his sharp mind and clever humor, often described as mischievous in his youth. His mother, Annona Tiensvold, and stepfather, Clarence Tiensvold, and his father James Andrew Szykowny (Lynn Szykowny) preceded him in death.

Dave's academic journey was a testament to his intellect and determination. He attended Santa Rosa Junior College and College of Marin, where he explored acting. He had a diverse career path from bartending, modeling, acting, sales, water treatment, biotechnology, and renewable fuels.

Dave put himself through college and graduated from UC Berkeley with a Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering. He went on to have a successful career in the oil refining industry as a Process Engineer.

Dave was also a Firefighter and on the Emergency Response Team.

A strong and true hero, Dave gave the gift of life in 2013 when he donated stem cells to his older brother, Mike, curing him of leukemia. This selfless act was a testament to his deep love and compassion for his family.

He found immense joy in the simple things, whether it was spending time with his children-laughing and playing cards -or indulging his many hobbies. An avid outdoorsman, Dave enjoyed mountain and road biking and hiking with his beloved Great Danes, Coco, Mocha, and Coffee. He was also a talented cook who learned to bake and bottle foods. A man who loved music, he quickly taught himself to play the guitar and had a beautiful singing voice. He loved to karaoke. He was also a talented model train enthusiast, spending countless hours meticulously working on his HOA models.

Dave is survived by his three children, Alexander, Ivan, and Mia; his wife, Rashelle Van Wagoner; and his former wife, Heidi Harter. He is also survived by his brother, Mike Szykowny (Mary Szykowny); his sisters, Teri Clark (Scott Clark) and Raven Brault (Forrest Brault); and his family cats, Sebastian and Luna, and Great Danes, Coco and Mocha.

Dave's presence will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be remembered for his kindness, intelligence, humor, and unwavering love for his family.

Funeral services/celebration of Dave's life will be Saturday, September 27, 2025, 11:30am at the Lake Point LDS chapel located at 1366 Canyon Road, Lake Point, UT 84074.

Davids spirit will be missed on this earthly plane.
I will remember him for his infectious smile,
His ability to overcome challenge's and his laser focus to create the life and family he dreamed about.
I want only the best for him as he continues his journey in another realm.
I will always see him riding free on Mount Tamalpais with the California sun setting over the Marin headlands.
Peace my friend.

I have alot of great memories of Dave in his years at Big West Oil. We worked together as a team trying to keep the units on-line.

Dave was always a bundle of energy and often made me laugh at work. He often told me how much he loved his kids. I will miss the look on his face when he was holding something funny back for the benefit of a coworker. He was a good man
