David Willis Tate, 72

David Willis Tate, age 72, of Crestwood, Ky., passed away Sept. 9, 2025.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Andrea Pirman Tate; his daughter, Sarah Yarmuth (Aaron); grandsons, John David Yarmuth and Rory Tate Yarmuth; and his daughter, Natalie Tate (Nicholas Do).
David was a 1975 Graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, and a 1982 Graduate of the University of Louisville College of Business.
David was an avid reader, a gifted woodworker, a dedicated New York Times crossword puzzle participant and a moderately competent musician. He was quick to smile and loved a terrible joke- particularly one at his expense.
David loved gardening, horseback riding and listening to music entirely too loudly. He was a devoted Christian and always emphasized extending grace to others, as he had had it extended to him throughout his life.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Dollye Germany and Roy Askew Tate and further survived by his sister, Robin Hall (Michael); brother, Roy Wayne Tate (Susan); as well as many nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly.
David leaves behind a legacy of curiosity, generosity of spirit, commitment to doing the right thing, even when it's difficult and the burden of being a fan of Army football.
His family is grateful for the support of the staff at the University of Louisville Hospital Intensive Care Unit and Network for Hope, who stood with them and helped them through his final days.
David will be laid to rest at the West Point Cemetery at the United States Military Academy on April 21, 2026 at 1:30 p.m.
