Obituary published on Legacy.com by Walnut Lawn Funeral Home - Springfield on Mar. 20, 2026.
David Eugene Taylor passed away peacefully on March 18, 2026 in Springfield, Missouri. On May 20, 1951, he was born to William and Vera Mae Taylor in Malden, Missouri. He graduated from Billings High School in 1969 and went on to a distinguished 35-year career in law enforcement, ending with his retirement as the Chief of Police of Billings, Missouri. During his service, he was awarded the Law Enforcement Purple Heart following a career-ending injury sustained in the line of duty.

He found joy in many things throughout his life. He loved spending time at the beach, traveling many times to Florida. He competed in go-kart racing, earning numerous trophies and ribbons. He had a love for antiquing and going to estate sales. He was an avid fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and the St. Louis Cardinals, and enjoyed watching NASCAR racing. He loved classic rock music to which he referred to as "real rock music."

He was welcomed into heaven by his beloved partner, Louise Pitts; his parents William and Vera Mae Taylor; his siblings William "Bill" Taylor, Richard Taylor, Grover "Dee" Taylor, Wilma Taylor, Linda (Taylor) Tate, and Reta Taylor; and his niece Tari (Schaumann) Smith.

He is survived by his daughter, Andrea "Andi" Deutscher and her husband, Ben Deutscher; his beloved granddaughter, Ava Deutscher; his daughter, Chandra "Chance" Taylor and Jack Haslip; his sister, Delpha (Taylor) Koeller and her husband, Andy Koeller; and the brothers, children, and grandchildren of his beloved partner, Louise, who became cherished members of his family. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends who will miss him greatly.

In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place, and a graveside service will be held at a later date with interment at Clear Creek Cemetery in Springfield, Missouri.
