David Timpson Obituary

David E. Timpson, 68, of Springdale, passed away with family by his side on Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2025. He was the son of the late Regis and Geraldine Timpson; beloved brother of Bruce (Linda) Timpson, Donna (late Paul) Bonosky, Kimberly (David) Scalise, and Jennifer (Craig) Russell; and loving uncle of Olivia (fiance David), Savanna (Jonathan), Matt, Dane (Katya), Ian, Regis, Evan (Peyton), Nora (fiance Danny), and Owen. Dave was passionate about sports and a true Pittsburgh sports fan. He graduated from Springdale High School in 1975, where he was a wide receiver on the 1973 WPIAL Class A Championship football team and was the first team all-conference wide receiver. After high school, he played football at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and for multiple local teams, including as starting wide receiver for the semi-pro Pittsburgh Wolf Pak and Colts. He also played Dek hockey for many years well into his adult life. He frequently told stories about his teammates and cherished those relationships. He not only excelled as an athlete but also shared his years of experience and love of football and hockey with several children he cared about and many other young athletes as a coach and mentor, including most recently the New Ken Jets youth Dek hockey team at Memorial Park this past summer. He said it felt so good to feel young again to shoot balls with them. Dave also spent several years practicing Taekwondo and earned his brown belt while also helping the children that he cared about to learn the sport. He loved to share his passion and knowledge to encourage and help others. In addition to caring about people, he had a deep compassion for animals. Beyond his pets, he cared for and fed wild animals he encountered at work and home. He had a huge heart. He was a dedicated employee of Allegheny County in the Parks and Recreation Department for over 41 years and a member of the Laborers' International Union of North America. More recently, both before and after retirement, he worked at several local ice hockey rinks, most recently the Pittsburgh Ice Arena in New Kensington, where he skillfully and proudly operated the Zamboni and stepped in to serve in other areas when needed. He cared very much about his hockey family, and we are grateful for their support and care. Dave humbly and courageously battled a stage 4 cancer diagnosis and received excellent, compassionate care from multiple amazing and caring medical professionals that he fondly referred to as his "team." Most notably, we want to recognize and thank the Natrona Heights UPMC Hillman Cancer Center staff and his oncologist, John Lech. Dr. Lech didn't only treat Dave's illness he cared for him personally and took time to get to know him and talk about family and fantasy football. To his family and closest friends, Dave will be forever known as "The Champ." Burial will be private at St. Augustine's Cemetery next to his parents.
