One great Memory was going to school. I was I believe in the 1st Grade at Smith School. This snow storm hit us and the roads were impassable, drifts, etc.. My Brother put me on his shoulders and carried me a mile to the bus Stop. My Father had a 110 Acre farm at the end of the road so the bus never picked us up in those days, my Mom & Dad were strict about school so in those days we made it to the school or else. It isn't like today where if there is 3 inches of snow the schools all closed up, not in those days, so all us farmer kids made it to school, come hell or high water. Today all these kids are spoiled, we wasn't and we knew what work was working in the hay barn, feeding the cattle and everything else. I am sure I waved to David and Gary that day as my Brother carried me sitting on his shoulders while going to school in the middle of a blizzard. I can remember after I Graduated from High School I couldn't get home for 3 days because the drifts were taller than the vehicle. I ended up helping my friend drive wrecker at his Dads Business and we hauled vehicles off the Interstate 95 for 3 days, until the City Workers could get Bull Dozers and Frontend Loaders to dig the road out of all the snow. I remember drifts that were at least 10 feet tall, Yep, back in those days we had real snow, not like today, This gives you a different insight of the way of life we all endured back in those days in the 1950's, None of us were cupcakes, we all had to work. This is just one of the stories I figured I had to mention so all these young kids today know what we had to live through, take care and RIP David.
