David H. Tredeau, 94, a longtime resident of Chelmsford, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 12, 2024, at his home under hospice care following a period of declining health. He was the beloved husband of the late Isabel E. (Mancuso) Tredeau with whom he shared 66 years of marriage until her passing in 2021.
He was born in Milford, MA on August 21, 1929, and was the son of the late Harris P. and Mary (King) Tredeau.
Dave grew up in Milford, MA where, in his youth, enjoyed playing baseball and became an accomplished pianist. He loved spending time with his father and brother Paul with whom he developed a lifelong interest in airplanes. In high school he was a member of the Milford Boys Club basketball and swim teams. He graduated from Milford High School in 1947. It was there that he met and fell in love with his date to the Junior Prom, Isabel Mancuso. They were together ever since and remained the best dancers on the floor. They married in 1954 and started their family. Together they resided in Milford, Framingham, El Paso, TX, Chelmsford, Orlando, FL, Schrobenhausen, Bavaria, Germany and finally retired to Boca Raton, FL. While living in Schrobenhausen for 3 months, Dave and Isabel traveled extensively through Germany, France, Switzerland, and Italy. In 2004, they returned to Chelmsford to be close to their family.
After high school, Dave attended the Hiller School in Washington, DC and the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT. While attending the academy, Dave trained on the USCG Cutter Eagle, one of the greatest thrills of his life. Following his time at the academy, Dave joined the United States Navy where he spent the next four years as a navigator and radar operator on various naval planes based in Iceland and the North Atlantic, New Brunswick, ME, and Key West, FL. Over the last few years, he has collected a number of exquisite naval model planes that he flew in during his service.
Dave was honorably discharged from the Navy and began employment with the Raytheon Corporation where he spent the next 5 decades. He held many titles from Quality Manager to Principal Engineer, located at Raytheon Facilities at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico, Orlando, Florida, and well as assignments in Shawsheen, Bedford and Andover, Massachusetts. Dave was highly respected by his peers, was a mentor to countless fellow engineers and technicians as well as many US Government personnel. Of particular note was his highly significant contributions to the HAWK and PATRIOT Missile Systems design, fabrication and rollout to Production.
Dave was the consummate gentleman. He was kind, caring and considerate of others. He was capable of finding the good in everyone. He loved his country and his family and was a dedicated and loving husband, father, and grandfather. Until his eyesight failed him, Dave read incessantly and never lost his love of learning. He loved the sea and sailing his boat, "Myrinna." He loved and looked forward to the annual family vacation to Cape Cod.
Dave leaves his three children and their spouses, Kim Richardson and her husband Paul of Tyngsborough, Susan Stander and her husband Robert of Chelmsford, and Thomas Tredeau and his wife Mary of Chelmsford; his grandchildren, Paige Richardson and her partner Ryan Morgan of Nashua, NH, Sean Green of Chelmsford, Matthew Tredeau of Chelmsford, David Ng of Peterborough, NH; and new great granddaughter Gia Isabel Morgan of Nashua, NH; his brother-in-law Samuel Mancuso and his wife Martha of Milford; and sister-in-law Ruth Mancuso of Littleton, MA. He is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.
Dave was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law Paul and Rosemary (Larkin) Tredeau, brother-in-law James Mancuso, sister-in-law Betty (Hixon) Mancuso, sister-in-law Rita (Mancuso) Byron, and sister-in-law Anna (Lombardi) Mancuso, all of Milford.
