David Michael Trehey, died peacefully at home surrounded by his devoted family on his 67th birthday, Friday, May 2, 2025, after a long courageous struggle with Fronto-Temporal Dementia/Alzheimers Disease. David was a man with a kind and generous spirit and an incredible sense of humor. He is the son of the late Jean (McNabb) and Alfred Trehey. David was born in Springfield, grew up in Agawam and graduated from Agawam High School. He developed a love of sports from an early age playing little league baseball, varsity hockey and football. He continued to remain active playing Slo-Pitch softball and golf in his adult years. He worked at Fentons Athletic Supply in Springfield and went on to be a salesman in the sporting goods industry which eventually led him to open his own business. He and his wife continued to run SPORTSTUFF at the "X" in Springfield for 28 years before retiring in 2018. David was an avid New England Sports fan; he loved the beach and trips to Cape Cod. David was fortunate to travel to Italy on two occasions where he deepened his appreciation for his wifes heritage and family. David loved spending time with and was very devoted to his son, Brian. He was a loving father, husband, and brother as well as a loyal friend to many.
David leaves his beloved wife of 42 years, Antonia "Toni" Veronesi-Trehey, his cherished son, Brian Trehey, his loved sisters Patricia Trehey and Jennifer OMalley and her husband John, his mother-in-law Alba "Carla" Veronesi, many cousins and friends. Besides his parents, David is predeceased by his father-in-law Agostino Veronesi and brother-in-law Guy Veronesi.
Services to celebrate Davids life will begin with visiting hours on Thursday, May 8, 2025 from 5:00-7:00pm at Colonial Forastiere Funeral & Cremation on 985 Main Street in Agawam. On Friday, May 9, 2025, his services will begin at 8:45am at the funeral home, followed by Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00am at St. John the Evangelist Church. Burial will follow in Agawam Center Cemetery. Donations may be made in Davids memory to support his son Brians day hab program.
