In Loving Memory
David LeRoy "Dave" Tuoto
David LeRoy "Dave" Tuoto, age 78, passed away unexpectedly at his
Colville, WA home with his loving wife by his side on May 9, 2023. A longtime resident of
Livingston, NY, Dave was born on September 8, 1944 in Bradford, PA to Frank LeRoy and Iva (Hotchkiss) Tuoto.
Dave's family, along with his two sisters, relocated early in his life to
Olean, NY, where he would spend his childhood. He would go on to attend and graduate from Union Springs Academy in
Auburn, NY, before following his family to
North Attleboro, MA. While visiting his family, he would meet the love of his life, Bonnie Sue Knox, after being introduced by his sisters, who worked for Bonnie's father at Fuller Memorial Hospital. Dave and Bonnie both knew that they had found the one; after a three-month courtship, the couple was engaged, and after another three months, they were joined in marriage.
Dave and Bonnie would soon relocate to
Pawtucket, RI for a short time before settling in Livingston, where their family quickly grew by three as they welcomed three daughters, Arna, Cynthia, and Penny. The couple began careers at a local nursing facility with a 400 acre campus, complete with staff housing that they lived in for several years. Dave, being quite the builder, would go on to build the family a home close to the campus, getting some plumbing assistance from a close friend.
After a 30-year career with the retirement center, Dave made the decision to retire, which gave him time to start Detailed Enterprises, where his remodeling work was truly able to shine. Over the years he was awarded several contracts to remodel several historic location in Upstate New York, including the Livingston Public Library. In the Mid 2010's, Dave and Bonnie would follow their daughter, Arna to the Inland Northwest, first settling down on Williams Lake Rd, before Dave's health concerns would lead the couple to the decision to move to downtown Colville. Dave's struggles with dementia would arise soon after he and Bonnie relocated to Colville, and Bonnie would spend the next 5 years lovingly caring for him in the home, with the help of their daughter, Arna.
Even when he wasn't working, construction was always on Dave's mind. He built cradles for each of the grandchildren his daughters Penny and Arna welcomed, and plant stands for the array of plants Cynthia cares for. His attention to detail was unmatched, and that fact was reflected in the high quality of his craftsmanship. If he wasn't building, Dave could typically be found outdoors, hiking and enjoying the sounds and sights of nature. His family was his biggest joy, and his smile was illuminated whenever he had the chance to spend time with them.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Iva Tuoto. He is survived by his loving wife, Bonnie Sue Tuoto; his daughters, Arna (Keith) Banfe, Cindy (Doug) Amende, and Penny (Scott) Rifenburgh; his grandchildren, Daniel (Jordynn), Logan (Val), and Emily Rifenburgh, and Kyle and Michaela Banfe; his great granddaughter, Charlotte Rifenburgh; and his sisters, Linda Tull and Royanne Cook.
A memorial service for Dave in his longtime hometown of
Livingston, NY will be announced a later date. Please visit the online memorial and sign the guestbook at www.danekasfuneralchapel.com. Danekas Funeral Chapel and Crematory is honored to be entrusted with Dave's care and cremation.
