David Edward Turner, 88, passed away peacefully at his residence in York, South Carolina on November 22, 2025 with his loving family by his side.
He was born in Gaston County, North Carolina, on December 13, 1936 to the late Sanford and Macie Turner. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 66 years, Betty Black Turner; daughter, Judy Ghorley; grandson, Michael Moody; and three son-in-law’s, Mike Harvell, Jackie Ghorley, and Richard Hayes.
David was a veteran of the United States Army and retired from Continental Tire after 30 years of dedicated service. After his retirement he worked for nine years in the Cemetery at Gaston Memorial Park. He loved his church, no matter where he went, and was a very devoted man. David enjoyed gardening and was a hard worker, who was always busy. He leaves many happy memories to be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his children, David Earl Turner (Roxane), Jean Harvell, and Sandra Hayes; siblings, Tony Lee Turner (Karen) and Linda Griffin (Jack); five grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.
Family and friends will gather for visitation from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 25, 2025 at Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel with Rev. Carl Overton officiating. Burial will follow at Gaston Memorial Park.
