David Sidney Twilley of Mardela Springs passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at the age of 80, in his Frederick, Maryland home where he had recently relocated. Born on October 5, 1945, in Salisbury, MD, David was a son of the late Sidney and Martha Twilley.
A 1963 graduate of Mardela High School, David's athleticism shone across multiple sports, particularly in track & field and basketball. He continued playing basketball collegiately at Goldey Beacom College, and throughout his life his love of sports never dimmed - whether playing in local softball leagues or cheering passionately for the Orioles and Ravens.
David dedicated his professional life to George, Miles & Buhr, where he worked for 31 years helping manage their finances, bringing the same steady reliability and quiet excellence that defined his character. Those who knew David also remember his easygoing personality, gentle humor, and thoughtful perspective on life.
On July 27, 1974, he married his beloved wife Helen Hearne Twilley, and together they built a wonderful life over 51 years of marriage. Their bond was further strengthened by the joy of family, including their son Ross Twilley, daughter-in-law Kristi, and granddaughters Emma and Charlotte. David is also survived by his brother Ralph Twilley and sister-in-law Lorrie; niece Alyssa Haldeman and her husband Scott; nephew Christopher Twilley and his wife Alina; and many cousins, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at Short Funeral Home, 13 E. Grove Street, Delmar, Delaware, with visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Springhill Memory Gardens in Hebron, Maryland. A celebration of life reception will be held after the conclusion of interment at Green Hill Country Club, 5471 Whitehaven Road, Quantico, MD 21856.
