David Veder, a month shy of 90, born in Manhattan, New York, died peacefully in Naperville, Illinois, on Tuesday, July 22, 2025. Dave was a first-generation American whose parents, Morris and Mary Veder, arrived from the Netherlands. Dave attended the Bronx High School of Science and earned his bachelor's degree from the City College of New York (CUNY) at night, while working full-time. He was a devoted husband, married to Joan C. Veder (nee Cantor) for 57 years, a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and loyal friend. His friendships lasted his lifetime.

Dave worked as a merchandise manager in the textile industry for many decades. He was an avid cyclist who biked well into his 80s, amassing more than 60,000 miles. He completed more than 20 Big Apple Century Rides (100 miles in a day.) He commuted by bicycle daily from the Bronx to midtown Manhattan unless the temperature dropped below freezing or it was snowing. He was a long-time ride leader and member of the Westchester County, NY, Westchester Cycle Club. Dave never met a dessert he didn't like and was known for his unconventional biking attire and the fifteen pounds of tools he carried on his bike.

Dave was preceded in death by his wife, Joan, and daughter, Dara. He is survived by his daughter, Karen V. Peck (George), and his two grandchildren, Alec and Rose; his brother, Robert Veder (Tina), and his sister-in-law, Susan Herz (Ralph), and their children and grandchildren.

Dave will have a private memorial and ash scattering as he wished. Dave lived like he died-on his terms. His kindness is remembered by people he touched from all walks of life. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
