David Verzilli Obituary

Published by Lane Family Funeral Homes & Cremation Service - Canfield Chapel on Jan. 19, 2010.
Canfield- A celebration of life service will be held at 11 am Saturday at Emmanuel Community Church for Pastor David Verzilli who died Tuesday at the Hospice House. Pastor David was born March 11, 1932 in Bessemer, PA. the son of Lepoldo and Teresa (Olive) Verzilli. Pastor David began his ministry in Youngstown in 1954 when he became an associate of the late Evangelist Kathryn Kuhlman immediately after his graduation from Eastern Bible Institute in Pennsylvania. He conducted weekly prayer meetings in Youngstown, Salem, Painesville and Franklin, PA. at first , and his responsibly increased as Miss Kuhlman's ministry expanded. Eventually he was conducting most Sunday services at Stambaugh, as well as prayer meetings in Youngstown, Pittsburgh and Cleveland area. Rev. Verzilli is survived by his wife of 55 years the former Kathleen (Denlinger) Verzilli whom he married January 2, 1954, children; Debbie (Jim) Vennetti of Boardman and Pastor David (Deborah) Verzilli also of Boardman. He is also survived by grandchildren; Nathan Colettis of Pittsburgh, David Verzilli of Boston, Jonathan Verzilli of Boardman, sisters; Pauline Verzilli of Boardman, Janice Warren of New Castle and brother Robert (Carol) in Bessemer. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Mary Riggio and brother Leo. Rev. Verzilli belonged to the Evangelical Church Alliance in Bradley, IL. And was a graduate of Bessemer High School. Rev. Verzilli proclaimed the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ with passion because he believed everything in the Bible. David is Italian and the same passion he had for the Gospel, he had for eating. He loved to cook and every store in the Youngstown area knew who he was. As he walked through the door everyone would yell out "Hi David". He was always remembered by people after meeting him. David always had a word of encouragement for anyone he met. He will have a great time in Heaven, meeting and greeting, but most of all he will see Jesus face to face. The Verzilli family would like to thank Hospice at Home and Hospice House for their tender and loving care of David. It was truly inspiring to be part of. Family and friends may call from 5-8 pm Friday at the church located at 6512 Kirk Road in Austintown and one hour prior to services Saturday morning. The family requests that memorial contributions take the form of donations to Emmanuel Community Church or to the Hospice House. Lane Funeral Home Canfield Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements

My husband and I were members of Emmanuel Ministries, under Pastor Verzilli,Senior. I'd like to offer sincere gratitude for the teaching and preaching of the word of God in a way that enabled my family and I to know our Father God along with the person of our Savior, Christ Jesus. The word and scriptures were clearly defined and always spoken as the word of God; not psychology or personal interpretation. This has enabled me and my family to remain seeking clarity in what the WORD of GOD is saying to us, definitively. With much gratitude....

Dear Kathleen, This is Rob, Grandson of Keith and Helen McAuly. I am so sorry to just now learn the passing of David. I amvery sad to hear this and hope that you are doing okay. My wife Joey and I live in California now since my retirement of the Marine Corps. I loved David and the ministry as I grew up in it. I miss it dearly and have a hard time trying to find a church that is Holy Spirit led as yours and David's was. My sympathies. How I long for those days again.
