David Lee Vitek

David Lee Vitek, 62, of Portland, TX, peacefully passed away at his home on Thursday, September 14th, 2023 after a long battle with bladder cancer. He was born May 15th, 1961 in Wahoo, Nebraska to Martin Vitek and Bernice Vitek.

David served in the Navy for 20 years as a gas free engineer. He met his wife Yukari while stationed in Japan and were married for 25 years. He received numerous awards and medals before retiring in 2008. After retiring, he received a technical degree in Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Basic Refrigeration and worked as a HVAC technician until he became ill in 2017.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Bernice Vitek, and his brothers Martin Vitek II and Daniel Vitek. He is survived by his wife, Yukari Vitek, his children Victoria Eldridge, Natasha Hoang and David Vitek II, his grandchildren, Elizabeth Eldridge and Theodore Hoang, his brothers, Mathew Vitek and Michael Vitek, and his sister Marcia Bain.

Services will be held at Winstead’s Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 27th at 11 am, with visitation from 9 am to 11 am. Burial will be in the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery at 2 pm. that same day.

We will miss him dearly, but we find comfort in knowing he is no longer in pain. “Goodbye is not forever. Goodbye is not the end. It simply means I'll miss you until we meet again.”
