David Weedman Obituary

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of David S. Weedman. A one-of-a-kind treasure, our David left us on August 18, 2025 at the age of 82.

David was born in Longview, Wa to Harold and Margaret Weedman and was the middle child of two siblings, Holly Shank and Tracy Weedman. Growing up he quickly became a local legend in the Woodland, WA community. A natural athlete and three-sport star, he especially shined on the football field. David went on to graduate from Western Washington University, where he played linebacker and became the only player ever drafted into the NFL from his alma mater. His legacy lives on as he is proudly honored in the Western Washington University Hall of Fame to this day.

After a four-year stint in the NFL playing for the Washington Redskins for Vince Lombardi, Detroit Lions, and Philadelphia Eagles, he went on to pursue several careers, first as a girl's health teacher and assistant football coach at Kelso High School, then as a landscape designer, and ultimately as a successful real estate agent until his retirement.

David was first and foremost a lover of people. Those who knew him well can attest that he truly found joy in life's lessons, big and small, and embraced each moment. He was everyone's favorite jokester, always quick with a laugh and especially love to play pranks on his family and friends (and sometimes total strangers). His passions included gardening, wood working, golf, story telling, and most importantly attending to his beloved koi fish.

David is survived by his loving family: wife and companion of 35 years Leona; son: JD Weedman and wife Betsy; daughter: Wendy Woll and husband Matt; step daughters Kim Enyart and Lindsey Thomas and husband Jimmy; grandchildren: Marley Weedman Lorish and husband Andrew, Blade Weedman, Noah Weedman, Cooper Woll, Ava Woll, Ashley Watkins, Thomas Anderson and his precious dog Sophie. He is also survived by countless friends. If there was one thing David never lacked, it was people who loved to share in his laughter and company.

To our dearest David-known lovingly as Dad, Weedy, Weedster, Papa and Grandpa Weed, you have touched each of our lives in ways words can hardly capture. Your laughter, your stories, and the countless memories you created with us will forever be treasured in our hearts.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Alzheimer's Association.

Heart breaking news. Rarely does a teacher stand out among the rest. He opened each class with " It's a great day to be alive" Never forgot that, even after 50 plus years. Rest in Paradise. Rise in Glory

As an underclassmen of Dave's at Woodland High School, I look up to him with admiration and awe. He, on many occasions offered me encouragement in both academics and athletics.

"Mr Weedman" was one of the most inspiring men I ever met. I was a sophomore at Kelso High School when he came into my life. I was in his Health class one day and he inspired me to turn out for Track instead of Baseball. I went on to break the school record in the High Jump, mostly because of him and his love of seeing someone get a personal best. I'll never forget you. May you Rest in Peace.

We would like to convey our deepest condolences to the Weedman Family. Dave made a huge impact as a teacher and coach, to my husband, Dennis. He still quotes him today. " It´s a great day to have a great day " our favorite saying we use and usually give Dave credit for teaching this to us. Dennis was a Kelso football player that Dave coached. Over the last 50 plus years he was Coach, Landscaper and friend. We didn´t see him very often but when we did, he knew us instantly and welcomed us in conversation. With all that´s going on in this world, not having Dave in it makes it a little sad. We are so thankful to his family for sharing this great man with us. He will live forever because of how many lives he touched. RIP Mr. Weedman

I first met Dave when my husband & I hired him to landscape our new home in Woodland. He recommended planting a daphne bush near our front door to greet our guests with a sweet smell. After enjoying that fragrance, I have planted daphne at my next 2 homes. It will always make me think of Dave.
Years later, I was happy to see Dave join me at Windermere Real Estate. He was always ready with a quick smile and some funny tale. I enjoyed his professionalism and positive attitude. He covered up his accomplishments with humor and grace. He was truly a gentleman and a pleasure to call a friend. He will be missed.
