David Wencl Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Crawford Funeral Home - Escanaba on Jan. 6, 2026.
David Wencl, 38, of Powers, born November 1, 1987, was called home to Jesus on December 25, 2025.
The world lost a kind, gentle and loving person who will be greatly missed. From a very young age David volunteered for years at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers, MI helping bring joy and comfort to the elderly on a daily basis.
David went on to graduate from North Central Area High School. He earned a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Northern Michigan University. He worked in various management roles at the Four Seasons Resort in Pembine, WI and The Waters in Minocqua, WI. He also spent time working as a corrections officer for youth.
David's passions and joys in life were his family and friends and helping the wayward souls he met along the way to feel loved and accepted. He never brought judgement to anyone that entered his life, only understanding and compassion. His incredibly large heart didn't just extend to family and friends, but to anyone in need of that helping hand, that kind word, or that simple gesture. It is his gentleness and caring that will be greatly missed.
David is survived by his mother, Kim Spawn; grandmother (second mom), Marilyn Wencl; sister, Rebecca DuPont, brother, Nick DuPont; sister-in-law, Tahlia DuPont; niece and nephew, Nadine and Nohlan who brought him so much love and joy on a daily basis; his special dog and companion, Goose; uncles, Rudy Wencl and Bob Wencl; aunt, Christina Kwarciany; and various cousins and many special friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Rudolph Wencl.
Visitation will be on Saturday, January 17th from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. (Central Time) at St. John Neumann Church in Spalding. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. (Central Time) with Rev. Benny Mathew officiating. A meal will follow in the church hall.
