Dave was a proud U.S. Air Force veteran, who was stationed in the Philippines during the Vietnam era. In 1968, he married his sweetheart, Janet Siebert and they just celebrated 55 years of marriage in May. He was a long-time member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Crossroads, the Batesville VFW Post #3183 and the American Legion Post #271.
Dave really loved his job of driving a school bus for the Batesville Community School Corporation, and was the right-hand man at Meyers Funeral Home for many years too. In addition, Dave proudly served his community as an EMT in Batesville for over 20+ years. He enjoyed spending time taking care of his yard and keeping his vehicles shining too. When he and Janet found the time, they liked going on trips and traveling around the states. Most of all, Dave loved being with his family, especially his beloved grandchildren.
He will be dearly missed by his wife, Janet; daughter, Nan (Dexter) Franke; son, Darren Westerfeld; grandsons, Austin (Kim) Franke and Cody Franke (Gracie Stevens); step-great grandson, Dawson; siblings, Daniel Westerfeld, James (Melissa) Westerfeld, Rick Westerfeld (Donna Dykes), Sharyn Cobler and Mary Anne (Snork) Walsman in addition to numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Pat Westerfeld.
Visitation will be Wednesday, November 22, 2023 from 9:00-11:30am at Meyers Funeral Home. Funeral to follow at 12:00noon at St. Paul Lutheran Church (Crossroads). Laura Nicholson, SAM officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Paul Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Batesville VFW Post #3183 and Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271.
Memorial donations may be given to Batesville EMS or St. Paul Cemetery, by bringing to services or mailing to Meyers Funeral Home, P.O. Box 202, Batesville, IN 47006.
