David Whitlow Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Owen Funeral Home - Dixie Highway on Dec. 24, 2025.
In loving memory of David Terrill Whitlow (Terry)

November 14th, 1960, to December 22nd, 2025

David Terrill Whitlow (Terry), 65 years old, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones on Monday, December 22nd, 2025.

Terry, also lovingly known as "Podge," was a skilled craftsman whose work and character left a lasting mark on those around him. A proud ironworker and longtime member of Ironworkers Local 70, he spent his career shaping the community, his legacy visible in the many buildings he helped construct. In recent years, he utilized his extensive expertise working alongside his wife in their business, Whitlow Safety, ensuring the safety of fellow ironworkers.

An avid outdoorsman, Terry instilled a love of nature in his children from the moment they were old enough to carry a sleeping bag. In his younger years, he would hitchhike with friends to the Red River Gorge, spending days exploring the wilderness and camping in "secret" spots. His appreciation for the outdoors remained constant throughout his life, whether backcountry camping, fishing, skiing, running, or spending time at Trailwood Lake with his beloved mother, stepfather, family, and friends.

Terry was known for his humor, quick wit, and playful spirit. He was endlessly creative. A true mastermind of industrious ideas, he was always imagining what he might build next. The treehouse he built for his children was one of iron and spanned two trees. One of his favorite memories was his daughter Ashley's response to a newly constructed gazebo. When unveiled, young Ashley responded with affectionate honesty, declaring, "Ding, dong, you're wrong, it's just another shed."

His work ethic was unmatched, yet it was surpassed by the fierce love he carried for his family. His earthly absence will be felt by those he loved for the rest of their lives. Terry will forever be remembered for his humor, creativity, kindness, and love.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Alberta Stoltz and David Whitlow; his stepfather, Paul Stoltz; and his sister, Diana Henry.

He is survived by his first wife, Kimberly Greenrose, and their children: Ashley Morris (Jad), Tyler Whitlow (Jackie), and Anna Fransen (Alex); his wife, Valerie Whitlow, and her children, Lea McIntosh and Brian McIntosh; his nephew, Christian Henry; and his grandchildren, Emma and William (children of Ashley) and Braxton (child of Lea).

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to Red River Gorge United, a land trust alliance committed to preserving the natural wilderness of the Red River Gorge, and Friends of Red River, a coalition committed to cleaning and protecting the Red River. These donations will help protect and preserve the wilderness Terry loved and spent so much of his life exploring with family and friends.
