David Francis Williams was born on July 22, 1953, the son of William and Cora May Williams. Bill, David's father, served in the military, so the family lived in several places before settling in New Jersey. After graduating high school, Dave followed in his dad's footsteps and enlisted in the Army. Upon his discharge, he was employed by Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health where he supported folks with disabilities. Following his tenure with Devereux, Dave went on to drive a concrete truck for many years before stepping into the position of sexton at Hopewell United Methodist Church. He faithfully served Hopewell for 18 years until his retirement.
Dave loved scouring antique stores for beautiful glass pieces, some of which he added to his collection, others he gave away as gifts. He was a fan of the Phillies, and a fan or Rock and Roll music. But beyond all of that, David Williams loved everything about Hopewell Church. Across the years, he delighted in the Hopewell Christian Preschool children who could always make him smile. He loved the outdoor spaces where he mowed in the summer, blew leaves in the fall and shoveled snow in the winter, all with a commitment to excellence. Dave was equally diligent in his care of Hopewell's indoor spaces, most especially the Bower Chapel. It was there that, in the quiet of the evening and as he was cleaning, Dave would have his heartfelt conversations with God.
Dave is survived by a brother, Kenny, as well as son, Zachary and daughter, Brandi. Dave's extended family includes the many Hopewell folks who appreciated him for the exceptional care he poured into the building and grounds of Hopewell UMC before his retirement. Dear friends include Tom and Nina, as well as Lynne.
After several years of struggle with memory loss, Dave passed peacefully on the day before Easter. A Life Celebration Service will be held on Tuesday, May 13th at 2:00 p.m. in Hopewell's Bower Chapel. Hopewell is located at 852 Hopewell Road,
Downingtown, Pa.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Hopewell UMC.
