Stuart C. Shive

Stuart C. Shive, 89, of Coatesville, passed away on Sunday. March 8, 2026 at Harrison House in Coatesville. He was the beloved husband of the late Barbara A. Fraser Shive, with whom he shared 57 years of marriage prior to her passing in 2014.

Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Harold Fredrick Shive and Laura Jane Moyer Shive.

Stuart attended Upper Darby High School. After graduation, he apprenticed in the carpentry field and eventually became a Finish Carpenter and Cabinetry Specialist. Stu eventually opened his own business – Accent Custom Woodworking. He was a meticulous craftsman that did not settle for good. He strove for perfection. Stu did extensive work on his house(s) and all of his children's and grandchildren's houses as well. He shared his love and talent in equal measures.

Stu coached and helped out in many ways with the sports teams on which his children participated. He loved to attend as many games of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren as he could. He loved the Big Three – Baseball, Basketball and Football. He followed the Phillies and Eagles and a special place in his heart for Villanova Basketball.

Stu loved the Pocono Mountains, where he honeymooned with Barb, and vacationed with the family every summer, eventually owning two houses there over the years.

Stuart Shive was a quiet man who let his family values and work ethic speak for him. Simplicity and humility walked with the man that had a tremendous loyalty to family and friends. His passing diminishes us all.

Stuart is survived by his four children, Linda R. Sharpless (Leslie), Kenneth N. Shive (Sherry), Patti L. Aker (Norman) and Nancy L. Falcone (James); seven grandchildren, Nathan Sharpless, Clayton Sharpless, Kendall Falcone, James Falcone, Hannah Aker, Zachary Shive and Ian Shive; and by five great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his son, James S. Shive and by his daughter, Lolly A. Shive.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 13, 2026 at the James J. Terry Funeral Home, 736 E. Lancaster Avenue, Downingtown. Family and friends will be received from 9:45-10:45 a.m.

Interment will be in Philadelphia Memorial Park, Frazer.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Brandywine Valley S.P.C.A.
