A celebration of life service for Michael Terrell "Terry" Shive will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Boone Funeral Home, Greenville. There will be a visitation from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. He passed away peacefully in his home on July 18, surrounded by a room full of friends and family. He was ten days shy of his 70th birthday.
Terry was born on July 28, 1955, in Lambert, MS, to Helen and William "Billy" Shive. He graduated from Cleveland High School in 1973, later earning a business degree from Delta State University.
Throughout his life, Terry was, first and foremost, a provider for his family. He held many careers-starting with factory work in his late teens and early twenties, then moving into various positions in the casino industry. In 2003, he found his true calling when a friend helped him land a job at Vector Mosquito Control as an airplane mechanic. He quickly gained the friendship and respect of his workmates and formed bonds with these men that he would cherish forever. Terry took great pride in the work they did, especially in transforming old passenger planes into state-of-the-art mosquito spray rigs. He traveled across the country with Vector, playing a vital role in mosquito control, particularly after hurricanes.
Terry was an avid reader and history buff. He loved searching for fossils and antiques, proudly displaying the many treasures he discovered. His man cave was filled with everything from megalodon teeth and Civil War cannonballs to old bottles and coins.
In December 2013, what started as a persistent cold turned into Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome. Terry was airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where he spent the next five months. Of the 22 patients admitted with the same condition, only two survived. His friends and family considered him a walking miracle and were deeply grateful for the extra eleven and a half years that they were blessed to share with him.
Terry and Connie were married in 2006. Theirs was a special love that never dimmed. They were like two teenagers in love, and their friends and family often joked that they couldn't be seated more than a few feet apart-always holding hands or sneaking an affectionate caress.
Terry is survived by his beloved wife and soulmate, Connie, and six sons: Ronnie Shive (Leslie), Lorne Shive (Emily), Wes Shive (Stephanie), Les Shive (Stefni), Randy Box, and Josh Box (Stacey), 18 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Terry's life was a testament to quiet strength, enduring love, and unwavering patience reminder to us all to slow down, hold close to the ones we love, and treasure each day we are given.
