David Ray Williams known to many as Grover, was born on August 17, 1944, in the Walnut Grove Community of Savannah, Tennessee. The son of the late Floyd H. and Eula J. White Williams. David departed this life on Sunday, December 14, 2025, in Savannah, Tennessee, at the age of 81 years, 3 months, and 27 days.
A 1962 graduate of Central High School, he is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara Prater Williams of Savannah, Tennessee; daughter, Brandi Williams Broome and her husband, Robert of Raleigh, North Carolina; and granddaughters, Anna Catherine Broome of New York, New York and Emma Claire Broome of Raleigh, North Carolina. He is also survived by his brothers Jimmy Williams and his wife Kay, and Donald Williams and a host of nieces and nephews.
David had a long career in the lumber and paneling business, starting with Williams Lumber Company in Adamsville, Tennessee. He served as Director of Sales at Welsh Forest Products in Memphis, Tennessee; and in 1994, while serving as Executive Vice President at American Pacific Paneling, he was named to the International Who's Who of Professionals. David formed D&B Sales, a wholesale paneling and plywood company, in 1996 and successfully ran that business for 27 years.
He was a member of the Germantown Church of Christ and the Germantown Youth Athletic Association where he served as vice president and coached youth sports for 15 years. After moving back to Savannah, David continued to coach youth baseball leading two teams to state titles. While David loved all his players, his favorite athletes were his granddaughters. He rarely missed a cross country or track meet and was always their loudest fan in the stands.
