David R. Wood, a devoted family man and long-time resident of Sheboygan, passed away on Monday, January 5, 2026, at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee at the age of 83. He was born May 27, 1942, in Lincoln, NE to the late Thomas W. and Marjory L. (Malchum) Wood. David led life characterized by hard work, family dedication, and a passion for outdoor activities.
David’s formative years included attendance at several schools, with his high school education at North High School. This diverse educational background laid the foundation for his future endeavors and shaped his straightforward approach to life.
On October 15, 1966, David married Carol Hintz, whom he often referred to as the love of his life. Their union was blessed with two sons Chad D. Wood (married to Dawn) and James A. Wood (married to Jenny Sheedlo). Davids family included five grandchildren: Emily King (married to Mike), Melissa Wood, Elizabeth Wood, Samantha Wood, and Kyle Wood, and one great-grandson Grayson King.
David’s work life spanned several decades and industries: He dedicated 28 years to Lakeland Manufacturing, followed by 19 years at Lear Automotive, from which he retired. Post-retirement, he drove a school bus for Prigges for 17 years. The diverse jobs showcased David’s adaptability and strong work ethic.
In his leisure time, David found joy in fishing, hunting, woodworking and spending time with his family.
Known for his straightforward demeanor, David was unafraid to express his opinions and take a stance on issues he believed in. His love for his family was profound and unwavering. David’s legacy is one of hard work, dedication to family and a life with conviction.
David is further survived by his sister-in-law; Linda Brendle of Cleveland, and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Allan (Elaine) Wood and Thomas (Janet) Wood, and brothers-in-law Eugene (Corrine) Hintz, Harol Hintz and Kenneth (Judy) Hintz.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at 5:00 PM at Olson Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 1132 Superior Ave., Sheboygan, with Pastor Tyler Werner officiating. Entombment will take place at Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, from 3:00 PM until the time of service at the FUNERAL HOME.
