David Allen Wright of Houston, TX passed away around 8:00 pm on October 20th, 2023. David was born on August 10th, 1946 to Ernie and Laverne Wright in Mart, TX. David was a wonderful husband, father, father-in-law, brother, uncle, grandfather, grandfather in-law, and great-grandfather. He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 54 years, Barbara McMillan Wright.
He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter Patricia Wright Halley of Houston, TX; daughter Tina Wright Morris and husband Doug Morris of Prosper, TX; sister Gwen Barker and family of Mexia, TX; brother-in-law Johnny McMillan and wife Sharon McMillan of Groesbeck, TX; granddaughter Chlo Serrato and husband Santiago Serrato of Dallas, TX;
and great granddaughters Clara Serrato and Cora Serrato of Dallas, TX.
He also leaves an extended family of cousins, nieces and nephews.
David loved his home state of Texas. He grew up in Mart, TX living a simple country life. He loved hunting, fishing, played football in high school, and singing in the church choir. He found Christ when he was 19, thanks to his loving wife, and devoted his life to God. He was a proud member of St. Stephen's United Methodist Church in Houston, a member of the United Methodist Men, and the choir. He had a strong relationship with God and loved his church family. He was a Girl Scout leader with his wife and later became a Boy Scout leader. He enjoyed camping and backpacking. David worked as a mechanical engineer and had a passion for building and putting things together. David also loved to BBQ and was a self-claimed grill master.
While David was in middle school in 1961, he went steady with a beautiful young woman named Barbara Lou McMillan. He wrote a note asking her to be his girlfriend. He had his younger sister, Gwen, deliver it to her and of course she said yes. He used to save her a seat on the school bus to and from school. Barbara always said that David reminded her of Elvis Presley. He would serenade her by singing Love Me Tender by Elvis. They were high school sweethearts and had an inseparable love. They married on May 28th, 1966 in Texas City and started their life together in Houston, TX. David will be missed by all that knew him during his 77 years of life.
