Julia McDonald Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Merit Memorial Funeral & Cremation Care - Dallas on Mar. 30, 2026.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Julia ("Judy") Ann McDonald on March 24, 2026. Born on July 12, 1942, in Metropolis, Illinois, to Morton Chick and Mary Baker. Judy was a beacon of hope and kindness, living a life filled with love and faith.

Judy's zest for life and her dedication to education were evident. After graduating from Tempe High School, she pursued her passion for learning at Arizona State University, earning both her bachelor's and master's degrees in education. Her career began as a teacher in Tempe, AZ, and she later moved to Richardson, Texas, where she served as an administrative assistant for over two decades.

She was an active member of the Waterview Church of Christ for over 50 years. Her strong faith was a powerful force in her life, shaping her actions and decisions. Judy married her husband, Richard McDonald, at the church in 1980, their love story being a testament to their shared faith. Her gentle spirit and unwavering devotion to her family and faith will forever be remembered. As quoted from Psalm 73:26, "God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever," a testament to Judy's faith and optimism.

Judy leaves behind a legacy of love, embodied by her sons, Robert Engle and Steve Engle; her stepson, Corey McDonald; her sister, Katherine Stewart; her grandchildren, Grant Engle, Taylor Engle, and Dylan Roether; and daughters-in-law, Shannon Engle and Lisa Hague McDonald. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard McDonald; her parents, Morton and Mary Chick; her sister, Mary Agnes Hornbaker; and her brother, Jon Chick.

We invite those who knew Julia to leave memories, share stories, and upload photos to her memorial page. Your contributions will help us celebrate her life and remember the love she shared with us all. Services will be announced at a later date.
