James Hall Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Merit Memorial Funeral & Cremation Care - Dallas on Jan. 8, 2026.
James R. Hall (Jay), 73, was born on January 4, 1953, in Schenectady, New York, to Gordon and Mary Jane Hall. Jay spent his formative years in Florida before eventually settling in Texas, the place he truly considered home. He lived with intention, loyalty, and integrity, and those qualities showed up everywhere-in his work, his friendships, and his family life. Jay met his wife, Sherry Hall, through work. Both were CPAs, and together they owned and managed Parker-Chase Preschools. It was a family endeavor in the best sense of the word, built on trust, hard work, and doing things the right way. After retirement, Jay and Sherry enjoyed time living in Florida and Colorado, exploring new places and enjoying the freedom that came with the next chapter of life, before returning home to Texas. Jay was a loyal friend, deeply dependable, and the kind of person who quietly took care of others without needing recognition. He took enormous pride in his family and found his greatest joy there. He was a devoted husband, a loving, generous, and hands-on father to his daughters Kendell Bachik, Meagan Coughlin, and Lindsay Wade, and a brother to Jeff Hall. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren, who brought him endless pride and laughter. His friends meant everything to him, and he never hesitated to show up when it mattered. Jay loved riding his Harley and chasing adventures across the world. Toward the end of his life, while spending time in the hospital, he decided to write a novel inspired by some of the wild thoughts that come with long days and too much time to think. It was done purely for fun and curiosity, very much in character for Jay. Jay lived fully, laughed often, and cared deeply for the people around him. He leaves behind a legacy of loyalty, generosity, and a life well lived. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Jay's memory to REACT Neuro-Rehab via Mightycause: https://mtyc.co/eyfs4g.
