David L. Writz, 73, of Athens, passed away at his home on Friday, November 21, 2025.

He was born on May 5, 1952, in Wausau, to the late Lawrence and Kathleen (Cooper) Writz. David was united in marriage to Vickie David on October 3, 1970, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Athens.

Shortly after high school David began working for Marathon Electric and retired from there, in 2014, after a full career that spanned over 40 years. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping with family and friends. David could be found many days on his land working hard making firewood or hauling buckets of gravel to reinforce his forest roads. No matter what he was doing or where he was going his dog, Oscar, would always be at his side. David loved the time spent with family, especially his great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his three daughters, Cindy (Todd) Frahm, Stacey (Greg) Metz, and Dawn Aurner; seven grandchildren, Taylor (Cole) Neitzel, Tannor Frahm, Bradley Metz (Lorna), Kelsey Metz (Bobby), William Aurner, Erika Aurner (Andrew), and Alex Writz; five great-grandchildren, Payton, Holstyn, Sophie, Kinsley, and Brinley; and other family, relatives, and friends. In 2019 he was preceded in death by his wife, Vickie.

Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Athens. Prayers will conclude the visitation at 4:00 p.m. Online condolences may be expressed at www.petersonkraemer.com.
