Dawn Lavonne Brochu, a beacon of love and wisdom, peacefully passed away on January 20, 2026, at the age of 89. Born on September 25, 1936, in
Lansing, Michigan, to the late Benjamin and Pauline (Ilic) Ruhf, Dawn's life was a tapestry woven with devotion to her family, a passion for the natural world, and a lifelong pursuit of knowledge.
Dawn's journey began at Sexton High School, where she graduated in 1953, setting a strong foundation for her future. Her career as a secretary at Waverly Middle School Library spanned many years, where she was much more than an employee; she was a nurturing presence to the students and staff, a quiet force enabling the smooth running of a place dedicated to learning.
In her personal life, Dawn's heart was closely knit to her beloved husband, Richard Brochu, with whom she shared a love that spanned almost 70 years. Together, they wintered in Arizona for 28 years, embracing the warmth of the sun and the company of each other. Dawn's love for flowers and nature was evident in every aspect of her life. She could often be found outdoors, tending to her garden, feeding the birds and deer, or caring for her cherished Koi fish.
Dawn's thirst for knowledge was insatiable. She was an avid reader, always eager to learn and grow. Her children, Mark (Deanne) Brochu and Michele (Todd) Gill, were brought up in an environment that fostered curiosity and education. Her wisdom and guidance were also cherished by her grandchildren, Stephanie (Branden) Wright and Justin (Dana) Gill. Dawn's legacy continued to flourish through her great-grandchildren, Elijah, Lyla, Abram, and Hazel, who brought immense joy and pride to her later years.
Those who knew Dawn describe her as loving, wise, and passionate. She approached life with a gentle strength and an open heart, always ready to listen and to give. Her wisdom was a guiding light for many, and her passion for life's simple pleasures was contagious. Dawn's presence was a gift to all who had the privilege of knowing her, and her spirit will continue to inspire those she has left behind.
Visitation will be held at Palmer, Bush & Jensen Family Funeral Homes Delta Chapel on Wednesday, January 28 from 10:00am-12:00pm with a Memorial Service immediately following at 12:00pm. Inurnment at Delta Center Cemetery will be at a later date.
