Dawn Marie Powell, age 61 of Marshalltown, passed away on December 24, 2025 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.
Dawn Marie Powell was born on January 29, 1964 at the University of Iowa Hospital, the daughter of David and Jeraldine (Hunt) Powell. She graduated from Burnside High School, now known as Southeast Valley High School. Dawn worked for the Times Republican, cleaning houses, and had other ventures over the years.
Dawn’s favorite title was grandma! She was dedicated to her grandchildren and loved every minute with them, whether she was visiting them at school or spending time with them at home. Dawn enjoyed shooting pool for fun and in several leagues, as well as jigsaw puzzles and collecting teddy bears.
Left to cherish Dawn’s memory are her life partner, Larry Armstrong of Marshalltown, and his children and grandchildren; her daughters, Latisha Curtis and Candace Lester; grandchildren, Kyra, Keaton, Riley, Jayden, Hayleigh, Brooklyn and Sydney; and great-grandchildren, Cole and Paige. She is also survived by her father, David (Shirley) Powell; her brother, Shane Powell; along with several nieces and nephews. In death, Dawn rejoins her mother, Jerry Wilfong; daughter, Brittany Colby; son, Scotty Housken; grandson, Dylan; and sister, Teri Schmitt.
