Dawn Strand, 76, passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at the Saint Cloud Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by loved ones.
Dawn was born in Wilson Township, Minnesota, to Russell and Alice (Heino) Siltman. She was a 1966 graduate of Pequot Lakes High School and was valedictorian of her class. She went on to Northwestern Nursing School and graduated with her nursing degree in 1969. She married James Strand on July 11, 1970, at First Lutheran Church in Pine River. Dawn spent her nursing career as a geriatric nurse, the majority of which was spent at the Saint Cloud VA Medical Center. Dawn was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Clear Lake and was an active volunteer for several years at the Clearwater Food Shelf.
Dawn is survived by her children, Jolene Strand of Saint Cloud, Jason Strand and Jessica Stredelman of Rice, and Jaime Strand of Clearwater; 6 grandsons and 3 granddaughters; many great-grandchildren; sister, Annette of Jenkins; and brothers, Roger of Gilbert and Ricky of Jenkins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Alice, and her husband, James.
A memorial service will be held at 12 PM on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at Brenny-Kline Funeral Home in Pine River. Visitation will start at 10 AM. Interment will be in the Ponto Lake Cemetery in rural Pine River. Friends may call one hour before services. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
