Deacon Thomas Santo Carone

February 17, 1942 - October 31, 2025

Deacon Thomas Santo Carone, beloved husband, father, educator, and servant of the Church, age 83, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2025.

He was born to Josephine (Lupica) and Sebastian Carone. He was united in marriage to Karol Sawyer for 59 years, and together they were blessed with two daughters, JoEllen and Kimberly (Mark) Arnold.

Deacon Tom was ordained a Permanent Deacon in the Diocese of Toledo on April 19, 1986. His life was marked by a deep commitment to faith, education, and service to others.

He dedicated many years to Catholic education, serving as both teacher and principal at several schools, including Saint John the Baptist School, Saint Ann School, Saint Theresa School, Saint Catherine of Siena School, and Saint Richard School in Swanton. His leadership and compassion left a lasting impact on countless students, families, and colleagues.

In parish ministry, Deacon Tom served faithfully at Saint Martin de Porres Parish, Immaculate Conception Parish, and the Historic Church of Saint Patrick. His diaconal ministry was deeply rooted in worship and a profound care for the poor, reflecting his unwavering devotion to Christ's call to serve "the least of these." Deacon Tom will be fondly remembered for the pantry that meant so much to him at Historic Church of Saint Patrick - "Deacon Tom's Food Pantry." He was always the first to help someone in need.

In addition to his wife and daughters, Tom leaves behind three grandsons: Anthony (Brianna), Corey (Alyssa), and Tyler (Brandi); five great-grandchildren: Adley, Tatum, Ian, Truett and Claire; Brothers Joseph (Carol) and John (Elaine), along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Catherine, brother Sebastian (Jr.), and great-grandson Talan.

The Reception of the Body and Vespers will take place at Sylvania Saint Joseph Parish on November 5, 2025, at 4:00 p.m., followed by visitation until 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue Thursday from 8:30a.m. until the Funeral Mass.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Daniel Thomas at Sylvania Saint Joseph Parish on November 6, 2025, at 10:00 a.m.

Deacon Tom's legacy of faith, kindness, and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
