DEAN BOURNE Obituary
DEAN BOURNE
06/24/1954 - 12/28/2025
Dean Bourne, Montevideo, died at his home on Sunday, December 28, 2025, at the age of 71.
A celebration of life was held on Friday, January 2, 2026, at Rock Haven Church in Montevideo.
Dean Royce Bourne was born June 24, 1954, to Henry and Joy Bourne in Montevideo. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Montevideo. Dean attended Montevideo schools and graduated in 1972.
Dean developed entrepreneurial skills at a young age, delivering newspapers, working for the family business, and working at Art's Dairy Freeze. While attending the Vo-Tech in Alexandria, he was called back to Montevideo to help with the family business following his father's heart attack. During his early career, he owned a rafter production business and later began working at Innovex. During his tenure at Innovex, he managed over 500 employees at one point and cared deeply for those who worked under him. After Innovex, Dean owned and operated his own business for several years. As he transitioned into semi-retirement, he worked in home inspections and rural mail delivery.
Dean was an avid sportsman who loved pheasant hunting and had several hunting dog companions over the years, he especially loved his Brittany Spaniels. He grew up fishing with his dad and enjoyed fishing all the lakes in the area. His favorite fishing spot, however, was the Missouri River. He would have fished every day if he could have. Many people benefited from his generosity in sharing the fruits of his hobbies. He also loved sharing his passion for the outdoors with family and friends.
Dean was blessed with two children from his first marriage, Nicholas and Erin. In 1991, he married the love of his life, Beth. Through this marriage, he gained two sons, Ethan and Brett. Dean was the fun dad - always wanting to spend time with his children, whether playing basketball in the driveway, golfing, hunting, or fishing. He enjoyed many trips with his family to places such as the Black Hills, Florida, Duluth, Itasca State Park, and Arizona. He was always willing to lend a helping hand or provide counsel through difficult situations and was the first call for many, both family and friends. Dean also helped care for several of his elderly aunts, as well as his parents.
Continuing in his faith journey, Dean was involved in the planting of Rock Haven Montevideo Church. He reaffirmed his faith through baptism at Rock Haven Montevideo Church in 2022. He was the go-to person to problem-solve or fix maintenance issues related to the church building and helped facilitate both big and small tasks, often working behind the scenes. He loved his church family and his community.
Dean is survived by his loving family: his wife, Beth; son Nicholas Bourne; daughter Erin (Terry) Northrup; son Ethan (Michelle) Sletten and granddaughter Taylor (special friend, Josh); son Brett (Jana) Sletten and grandchildren Madison (special friend, Kaleb) and Sam; siblings Eileen (Tom) Grosland and Mark (Marilyn) Bourne; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, and the unforgettable members of his coffee group and AA community.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Joy Bourne; his brother, Dale Bourne; his brother-in-law, Steve Sather; and his great-niece, Madison.
Dean was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He had a strong faith in Jesus Christ, shown through his care for others. He will be missed immeasurably.
