Dean Edward Chadbourne was born August 4, 1943, in Detroit Lakes, MN to Edward “Sparky” and Helga Chadbourne. He grew up in the same location of his current residence on Randolph Road. Growing up, Dean was always busy. Whether it was having neighbor kids over, building something, or riding horses. He had many horses in his childhood, such as “Nelly,” “Partner,” and “Silver.” He even opened his own saddle shop at age 12, called “Dean’s Saddle Shop.”
Following high school Dean attended Bemidji State University, where he pursued a degree in engineering, but later decided to switch to Education. After graduation he moved to Brainerd, MN, where he taught 6th grade at Garfield Elementary School.
Dean was united in marriage to Beverly Fagerlie in the summer of 1984. They made their home in Detroit Lakes. Soon after they gave birth to their son Sean. Dean owned and operated Driveway Service after his father passed away in 1983. He ran the business for 20 years. Over that time many of his employees became lifelong friends and family.
Dean was a kindhearted, “mostly” patient man. He would do anything for anyone who needed assistance. He would never hesitate to go out of his way for others. Anyone who knew him had only good things to say about him. Dean was a well-known and respected man around the area. I’m sure anyone you ask about him has at least one good story to tell. Dean enjoyed golfing, boating, snowmobiling, four wheeling, and having good laughs with friends. Perhaps his favorite thing was spending time with his grandson Kayden. He was his pride and joy. He attended every sporting and other events he could. Some would say he loved working to much, as he never slowed down. He still plowed snow and sold sealer at the age of 81.
Dean will be dearly missed by his sister, Diane Serpa, of Carson City, NV; son, Sean Chadbourne of Detroit Lakes, MN; and grandson, Kayden Chadbourne of Detroit Lakes, MN., as well as his many good friends he made over the years.
Dean was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Chadbourne, and his parents.
