Dean Hennick, 62, of Charles City, passed away Monday, March 3, 2025, surrounded by his loving family in his "Happy Place" (his garage) at home under the care of St. Croix Hospice.
A public visitation will be held from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 9, 2025, at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home in Charles City.
Due to the size of the family, a private funeral service will be held at the funeral home, but it will be live streamed on the Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home Facebook page Monday morning. Everyone is invited at noon (12:00 p.m.) on Monday, March 10, 2025, to the Floyd Community Center in Floyd for a meal and continued celebration of Dean's life.
Dean Allen Hennick, the son of Willard John "Bud" and Nora Marie (Wood) Hennick, was born November 7, 1962, in Chariton, Iowa. He received his education in Floyd and Charles City, graduating from Charles City High School in 1981. While in school Dean worked at the Floyd Country Mart and moved to Texas to work on an oil rig after graduation.
Dean moved back to Charles City and began working at Denny's Cabinet Shop. He was united in marriage to Jacqueline Obermeier on June 12, 1982, in Charles City. The couple made their home in Charles City and were blessed with three boys: Stephen, Brandon and Kyle.
Dean was employed with the Charles City Community Schools as the Head Custodian for 19 years. He also worked in maintenance at Comprehensive Systems for 24 years only leaving in April 2024 due to his health decline. Dean served as a volunteer firefighter for a total of 24 years with both the Floyd and Charles City fire departments, leaving with the rank of Lieutenant.
Dean was an avid card player (especially Euchre), enjoyed hunting with family and friends, fishing and camping. He was always helping others with home improvement projects and spent a lot of time in his "Happy Place" (his garage) working on anything and everything for family and friends. Dean loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchild.
Living family members include his wife, Jacque of Charles City; three sons: Steve (Nicki) Hennick of Nashua, Brandon (Patricia) Hennick of Charles City and Kyle (Lailanie) Hennick of Charles City currently stationed at Camp Humphreys, South Korea; ten grandchildren: Kaylee, Kyler, Madison, Max, Carter, Isabel, Abigail, Kyla Mae, Kyle, Jr. and Bailee Hennick; great-grandson, Brexton Hennick; a great-granddaughter on the way later this month; parents, Bud and Marie Hennick; five sisters: Angela Cooper of Lacona, Sandie (Kevin) Kimm of Charles City, Brenda Hennick of Charles City, Laura (Randy) Lines of Marble Rock and Stephanie Schoolcraft of Corydon; brother, Jody Jones of Corydon; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
