Dean William Scholes

The Funeral Services for Dean William 'Bill' Scholes, age 91 of Carson, will be held at 10:30am MT, Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Carson with Pastor Rose Trenbeath, officiating. Burial will be at 3:00pm CT on Tuesday in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery south of Mandan with full military honors afforded by the Walter J. Thome American Legion Post # 45 of Carson and the Mandan VFW 707. A family service will be held at 7:00pm on Monday in the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Elgin. Special music will be provided by Patsy Hauge. Serving as casketbearers are Robert Campbell, David Werner, Owen Wells, Doug Striegel, Dennis Sabin, Keith Payne, Pete Hetle, and Jeff Striegel. DEAN WILLIAM SCHOLES 'Bill' was born July 8, 1921 in Flasher, ND to Dean and Roaine (Hotham) Scholes. He grew up in rural Grant County and attended Cedar Grade School and graduated from Carson High School in 1940. He worked at the Triple A office (Agriculture Office), Grant County State Bank, and later joined the CCC's working in camps in the Black Hills. He enlisted into the U.S. Navy on September 2, 1942 and was honorably discharged on February 13, 1946. Following his discharge, he returned to the family farm south of Carson where he purchased land adjoining his fathers. He was united in marriage to Ione Ingram on July 31, 1948 in Flasher, ND. Following their marriage, they lived on the farm he had acquired where they raised their family. They moved into Carson in 1999 when Bill semi-retired. Bill enjoyed deer hunting and never missed a season in 50 years. He loved working with cattle. He was proud of the education of his children and grandchildren. He passed from this life on Thursday evening, August 23, 2012 at the Jacobson Memorial Care Center in Elgin. Surviving family members include his wife, Ione, Carson, ND; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Douglas and Marsha Scholes, Green Bay, WI; Gregory and Karen Scholes, Carson, ND; 4 daughters and sons-in-laws, Jennifer Scholes, Keizer, OR; Rebecca and Colin Cofer, Colfax, ND; Carmen and Randy Iwen, Evanston, WY; Candice and Jim Bentz, Anacortes, WA; 10 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 3 brothers and sisters 'in-law, Walter Scholes, Stanton, ND; James and Eva Scholes, Kent, WA; Al and Becky Scholes, Waukee, IA; 6 sisters and brothers-in-law, Donna Lewis, Scotts Valley, CA; Jane Nehl, Edmonds, WA; Dorothy Hauge, Carson, ND; Hazel Staudenrous, Port Angeles, WA; Lucille and Curt Thornton, Sequim, WA; and Marge and Monte Walker, Bremerton, WA. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law, Barb Scholes, brothers-in-law, Earl Lewis, Earl Nehl, Ardath Hauge, and Jerry Staudenrous. Visitation will be on Monday from 1:00 to 7:00pm at the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Elgin.
