Dean Simmons Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McNutt Funeral Home - Conroe on Mar. 6, 2026.
Dean Joseph Simmons of Santa Fe, Texas, 75, passed away Sunday, March 1, 2026, at his home.

Dean was born on September 3, 1950, in Mobile, AL. In his early years, he played football at Mary G. Montgomery High School in Semmes, AL. It was at that same high school where he met his wife, Joyce Covington, his senior year in 1968. They were later married in 1970 at Dean's parents' house.

After graduating high school, Dean held several jobs over the next 3 to 4 years including delivery driver, store clerk, and store manager. In 1973, he accepted a job offer in Biloxi, MS where he excelled. Over the course of 30+ years he rose through the ranks and was the Office Manager in charge of Human Resources and Information Technology before he retired in 2012.

Dean had a "can do" attitude when it came to most anything. From 1981-1986, he built a 3-bedroom home for his wife and son. He completed about 90% of the construction himself. Dean enjoyed spending time with his family. He also enjoyed hands-on jobs from woodworking to small engine repair to working on the car. His favorite motto was, "never give up."

Later in life, he devoted time to reading God's Word and being involved in the local church. He loved to lead prayers and fellowship with the congregation at the Church of Christ in Bacliff, TX.

He leaves his wife of 55 years, Joyce (Covington) Simmons; his son, Derek Simmons (Sara); extended family across several states; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Troy and Dora (Eubanks) Simmons; and his sister, Kaye (Simmons) Gaddy.
