Dean Thiery

1969 - 2026

Dean Ray Thiery, 56, of Vancouver, Washington, passed away on January 13, 2026, following a courageous battle with illness.

Dean was born on February 5, 1969, in Aberdeen, South Dakota, the son of Clarence and Judy (Reich) Thiery. He was raised in Kulm, North Dakota, where he graduated from Kulm High School in 1987. A lifelong learner, Dean attended Jamestown College and Valley City State University before earning his Business Degree from Rasmussen Business College in Bismarck. Later in life, while living in Vancouver, he achieved a personal milestone by earning his Master's Degree from Northern State University.

Dean spent much of his professional life in the Bismarck/Mandan area, serving as a Vice President and Loan Officer for several banks and credit unions. While his career was successful, his two greatest accomplishments were his daughters, Danae and Taryn, who remained his pride and joy throughout his life.

After retiring due to health reasons, Dean relocated to Aberdeen, South Dakota, where he married the love of his life, Olivia Kastengren, in September of 2020. The couple later moved to Vancouver, Washington, where they built their home together.

Dean was a man of intellect and heart-remembered by those who knew him as smart, patient, and deeply caring. He had a passion for travel and family time, and he never missed a chance to cheer on his beloved Minnesota Vikings or enjoy a game of Bingo. He even held a dream of one day coaching professional football, a testament to his enduring ambition and love for the sport.

Dean was grateful to have shared his life with his mother, Judy Thiery (Ashley, ND); His wife, Olivia Kastengren-Thiery (Vancouver, WA); His daughters, Danae Thiery (Rochester, NY), Taryn Thiery (Fargo, ND); His step-children, Stetson (Riley) Kastengren (Rapid City, SD), Samantha Kastengren (Sioux Falls, SD), Jack Kastengren (Vancouver, WA), Mattie Kastengren (Vancouver, WA); His step-grandkids; And his first biological grandbaby due in July, 2026 (Rochester, NY).

Dean joins in heaven his father, Clarence Thiery; His older brother, James Thiery; All of his grandparents; and many of his aunts and uncles.
