Dean H. Thomas, 59, lifelong resident of Sandy Creek, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, September 7, 2025 at home. Affectionately referred to as Deano by many, he attended Sandy Creek High School with the class of 1985 and was on their wrestling team.
Deano worked as a construction superintendent for Bette & Cring Construction Group in Watertown for the past 30 years. Prior to that, he worked for the family business, Krakau Implement, John Deere in Sandy Creek for many years. Deano was a former member of the Sandy Creek Volunteer Fire Department and an accomplished shuffleboard player. An avid outdoorsman, Deano enjoyed hunting, four wheeling, boating, and camping. He was a Buffalo Bills fan and a man with a heart of gold who will be missed.
Dean was predeceased by his parents, Jerry and MaryHelen Thomas, his brother, Dale Thomas, and his father-in-law, Joe “Pop” Hoy. He is survived by his wife of over 30 years, the former Kimberly (Hoy) of Sandy Creek; three children: Kathryn (Bryan) Rios formerly of Sandy Creek, Steven (Kari) Thomas of Pulaski, and Eric (Katelyn) Thomas of Lorraine; his three siblings: Mary Jane (Gordon) Gibbs of Snellville, GA, Jeffrey (Deanna) Thomas of Sandy Creek, and his twin brother, David (Becky) Thomas of Belleville; six grandchildren: Annabelle, Noah, Scarlett, Whitlee, Weston, and Elliana; and several nieces and nephews.
Contributions in Deano’s memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
Services will be held on Friday, September 12, 5:00 pm at Sandy Creek United Wesleyan Church aka the John Deere Church, 6224 N. Main St., Sandy Creek, NY. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Barage from 12- 3 pm on Saturday.
