Deanna Jo (Spillane) Veugeler, known to friends and family as "Dee," 87, of Lakewood, Illinois, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2025. She was born on June 12, 1938, in Chicago, Illinois, to Margaret and Nicholas Spillane.
Dee graduated from Loyola University in Chicago and dedicated much of her life to education as a school teacher and to raising her family. She lived in and around the Crystal Lake area for most of her adult life.
Beyond her family, Deanna's greatest passion was her love of dogs. Throughout her life, she welcomed dogs into her home and heart, and after retirement, she became a certified dog obedience trainer and volunteered at local animal shelters. Alongside her husband Bob, she was also committed to conservation through Pheasants Forever, planting hundreds of trees at their property in North Dakota.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert A. Ryan, with whom she shared 25 years of marriage; her son Richard; her daughter Suzanne; her brother Dennis Spillane; and her parents.
Deanna is survived by her loving husband of 23 years, Robert Veugeler, whom she married in 2002; her children Kevin, Patrick, Jeannie, and Robert; 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren from the Ryan family; her step-children, Deborah, Victoria and James; and 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren from the Veugeler family.
