Debbie Lake Obituary

Visit the Parker-Price & Davidson Cremations, Funerals, Receptions website to view the full obituary.

Debbie Lake, a loving mother, grandmother, and cherished friend, peacefully departed this world on August 28, 2025, in her hometown of Topeka, surrounded by her beloved family. She was born January 21, 1956, also in Topeka, and her life was a reflection of simplicity, spirituality, and selflessness.

For 26 years, Debbie served as the Executive Director at Papan's Landing Senior Center, dedicating her career to uplifting and enriching the lives of those around her until her retirement in 2022. Her kindness and compassion were evident in every interaction, as she devoted her time and heart to ensure that every individual felt valued and heard.

Debbie was a woman of profound faith, she was a member of Redemption Center Church in Topeka. Her spirituality guided her actions and relationships, making her a soothing presence for anyone needing someone to talk to. With a reserved nature, she offered her support quietly, allowing her gentle spirit to speak volumes in moments of need.

Art was one of Debbie's passions—she found joy in painting, a creative outlet that allowed her to express herself and share her beautiful perspective of the world. Yet, nothing brought her greater happiness than spending precious time with her family, especially her grandchildren, Sydney and Erin Sutton. They held a special place in her heart, and her face would light up with love and pride whenever she was in their company.

Debbie is survived by her loving daughter, Abbie (Tony) Sutton, who carries on her legacy of love and compassion. She is also mourned by her siblings: Jessie (Barbara) Smith of Mississippi, Harold McFarland of Topeka, and Stella "Connie" Shearin of Topeka, along with numerous half-siblings who share in the fond memories of her warm spirit.

Debbie's journey through life was touched by the love of her late husband, Ronnie Lake, whom she married on April 14, 1976. Their bond remains unforgotten, even after his passing on February 28, 2020. She also mourns the loss of her brother, Paul Smith of Topeka, and her parents, Jessie Smith and Ruby Moore. Her mother played an irreplaceable role in shaping the thoughtful and caring person she became.

A graveside service to honor Debbie's life will be held on September 2, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Memorial Park Cemetery in Topeka. Her spirit, marked by grace and love, will continue to reside in the hearts of all who knew her. Debbie Lake was more than a mother and a friend—she was a beacon of love and strength, leaving behind a legacy of compassion that will be cherished forever.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Croix Hospice, 2231 SW Wanamaker Rd Suite 202, Topeka, KS 66614.
