Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at Covenant Healthcare – Cooper, with her family at her side. Age 71 years.
The daughter of the late Donald G. and Helen M. (Cech) Church, Debbie was born on January 28, 1954, in Saginaw, Michigan. She graduated from Saginaw High School, class of 1972. Debbie then continued her education at Delta College. She married Stephen J. Gregus on October 15, 1977. He survives her. Debbie worked various jobs. She was a telephone operator and retired from Covenant Healthcare after 23 years of loyal and dedicated service. Debbie found joy crocheting and cross stitching. Her love for games, particularly Yahtzee, reflected her playful spirit. Reading was another cherished pastime. Additionally, she shared many memorable motorcycle experiences riding with her husband on day trips or trips up North. They also enjoyed bike excursions along scenic rail trails and camping. Above all, Debbie cherished the time with her family, especially her grandchildren and her great-grandson.
Surviving besides her husband, Steve Gregus, are daughters, Mandi Calangelo (fiancé Chad Winters), Nikki Hathaway; grandchildren, Caitlyn Calangelo, Joshua Calangelo, Liam Hathaway; great-grandson, Everett Childs; brothers and sisters, Ron (Michelle) Church, Karen Johnson, Jeanette (Willie) Morris; brother-in-law, Tony (Kerri) Gregus; sisters-in-law, Carla Gregus, Barb Gregus. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Besides her parents, Debbie was preceded in death by her daughter, Melissa Church; son, Matthew Gregus; brother, Donnie Church; sister, Nana Church; brothers-in-law, Joseph Gregus, and Jim Gregus.
Funeral service will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 3, 2025, W. L. Case and Company Funeral Directors, 4480 Mackinaw Rd, Saginaw, MI 48603. Rev. Fr. Steven M. Gavit will officiate with cremation to follow. Friends may visit the family from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service on Thursday at the funeral chapel. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the family’s wishes, in care of Steve Gregus.
