Deborah Harkcom Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 24, 2025.
Deborah Jane "Deb" Harkcom, 59, passed away on February 19, 2025, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Born on August 4, 1965, in Somerset, Pennsylvania, Deb was a woman of many talents and deep connections. She built a successful career as an office manager at Advanced Construction Robotics and previously served as the executive assistant to the regional vice president of Macy's. Her dedication and professionalism left a lasting impact on her colleagues.

Beyond her professional life, Deb was a beloved daughter, sister, sister-in-law, and aunt. She had a generous spirit and expressed her love through thoughtful gifts and homemade baked goods. Her Christmas biscotti and cookies were cherished by many and will be deeply missed.

Deb had a passion for reading and amassed an extensive collection of P.G. Wodehouse books, reflecting her love for British dry comedy. She also enjoyed knitting, needlepoint, cross-stitching, and playing board and card games-activities she often shared with family and friends. She treasured time spent with her nieces, whether playing games or visiting Moo Echo in Somerset for sweet treats. She enjoyed besting her brother-in-law at 5 Crowns.

A long-time member of Allegheny Center Alliance Church, Deb found great joy in the Women's Bible Study Group, where she formed lifelong friendships that became like family to her. She looked forward to annual trips to Alexandria, Virginia, to visit her sister, attend the Needlework Exhibit at Woodlawn, and dine at her favorite restaurant, The Warehouse.

She embraced an active lifestyle with long walks, gym workouts, and cycling. She had a fondness for good salmon at any restaurant but made it clear that cheese was not welcome on her plate-an opinion she never hesitated to share. Each July, she delighted in picking black raspberries during their short season so she could enjoy them with milk and sugar-a simple pleasure that brought her great joy.

Deb is survived by her father James Harkcom; her sister Susan Harris (Mark); and her nieces Chloe and Lilly Harris. She was predeceased by her mother Vera Jane Harkcom.

A memorial service will be held on March 1, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Allegheny Center Alliance Church, located at 250 East Ohio Street in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Deb's warmth, humor, and generosity touched many lives. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

To Deb's family I'm so so sorry for your loss! Deb was such a an awesome person and friend. She was extremely brave and courageous throughout these past several years. She never ever complained and was always worried about everyone but herself! I will truly miss her wit, sarcastic funny comments, her baking, our dinners at Lincoln Avenue brewery down the street from her home and her friendship! May she rest in peace.

My sympathies and prayers for Deb´s family. So many good memories from working with Deb at Macy´s. She is responsible for my love of Christmas Biscotti. And even after I left Macy´s and moved to Virginia a Christmas never passed without a special package from Deb. May God smile on her family and bring them peace with the knowledge she struggles and suffers no more.

You will be missed by all here at Brayman Construction. You always had a smile on your face and never seemed to have a care in the world. It was an honor working with you, I will cherish the memories. Rest in Peace my sweet friend.
