Deborah "Debbie" (nee Winkler) Kowalewski
Milwaukee- Found peace on March 29, 2024 at the age of 70. Debbie was born Deborah Lynn Winkler on September 17, 1953 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to the late Carl and Dorothy (nee Peterson) Winkler. Debbie grew up in the Bay View area. She graduated from Bay View High School in 1971. She worked almost 30 years in civil service. Following that career, she worked in home health care. She married Zdzislaw "G.G." Kowalewski in 1981. Debbie and Zdzislaw divorced but they remained friends. Debbie had moved to Green Bay, Wisconsin and met Carlos A. Ayala-Abarca, a native of El Salvador. They became best friends and were happy until Carlos' death in 2018.
Debbie was the loving mother to Katrina "Kasia" (Noah) Olguin. Proud grandmother of Noah Jr., Nathan, and Neko. Dear sister of Ron (Alice) Winkler, Patricia (Anthony) Chicantek, and Karen (Dave) Laska. Beloved sister-in-law to Irena (Edward) Krzykalski, John (Sally) Kowalewski, the late Helena Kleban, and the late Stanislaw Kowalewski. Aunt of Devan and Mackenzie (Beth) Laska and daughter Kerrigan, Jenny Chicantek (boyfriend Brian Johnson) and her son Logan, Cassandra Chicantek and her son Elijah, Monika Tischer and her son Dylan and her daughter Mariah, Slywek (Rene) Krzykalski, Darek (Magda) Kleban and their sons Jacob and Phillip. Further survived by her other relatives and friends here in the Milwaukee and Green Bay areas as well as internationally in Poland.
Debbie's interests included hanging out with her family. She also enjoyed sunflowers, Buddhism and music. She especially enjoyed Native American music and culture.
Visitation at Hartson Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 from 9 am to 11am. Funeral Service 11 am. Interment to follow: Highland Memorial Park Cemetery.
