Deborah Mayer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Crestwood Funeral Home and Cremation Services - Downtown on Jan. 17, 2026.
Deborah Lynn Mayer passed away peacefully on January 13, 2026, after a short but courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by a close circle of dear friends.

She was an award-winning producer for both television and special events. She was funny, smart, witty, worldly, a fitness enthusiast, a photographer, a talented floral designer, a devoted, loyal friend and sister, to name just a few of her many talents and attributes.

Born December 9, 1954, Deb grew up in Downers Grove, IL. She attended the College of William and Mary, and graduated in 1977 with a B.A. and a major in Economics. After living briefly in Washington, DC, San Francisco, and Los Angeles, she made her home in Manhattan.

Deb was a participant in life, not a spectator. Nothing kept her down. Deb loved travel and adventures – she went on many trips with friends to Europe, the Caribbean, the Galapagos Islands, including a stint working in a French vineyard stomping grapes and, many years later, fulfilling a life-long dream to walk the Camino de Santiago. She also had a rich life in her Hell's Kitchen home, where she was an avid card player (a shark at bridge!) and a devoted member of St. Clement's Episcopal Church where she served for many years on the vestry.

Deb was an extraordinary person, a true friend, and a bright light to all those who were lucky to know her.

There is a memorial service on Sat. Feb. 7 at 2pm at

St. Clements Church

423 W. 46th St.

A very beautifully written remembrance of Debby. We had looked forward to her visiting us in our new home. She was planning on getting here as soon as she felt better. My heart is broken that we won't be making new memories together. Kathy and I will cherish our RV adventure with Debby traveling through New Mexico and experiencing the Balloon Festival. Among many many more family memories through the years!
Rest in Peace, Cousin Debby.
You are forever in our hearts.

Debby was my cherished, lifelong friend. We met in Kindergarten at Longfellow School in Downers Grove, Illinois. I was blessed to count her brother, Danny, and her mother, Dorothy as dear friends as well. Debby was a truly remarkable, thoughtful, warm, intelligent and funny personality who lit up a room with her stunning smile. What an honor to know and love her. I´m truly grateful for her friendship. I´m a better person for having her in my life. Debby will be in my heart forever.

Debby, take a bow. Your life has stood the test of time. Intellectually focused; Courageous of heart; Compassion in your soul; Physically strong. None of that builds randomly. I imagine your steps resonate in many places and hearts, some hidden from your awareness. It´s amazing, isn´t it? So much joy and contentment for us each day. You have stood the test of time.
I met Debby in HS; she was a joy to be with. The pic is of her Fall '21 trip to Chicago with Mel Mitchell and me.

I am stunned to know that Debbie has passed. I knew her at William and Mary and lost touch with her after she graduated. She was a strong and wonderful friend during that time. She was a remarkable person and friend. I am so sorry. Tienk
