Deborah K. McCreary September 16, 1954 ~ September 3, 2025
Deborah K. McCreary, 70, Upland, passed away in her home at 9:00 pm on Wednesday, September 3, 2025. She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on Thursday, September 16, 1954, to Earl and Dorothy "Winnie" (Smith) Whirls. On September 15, 1973, she married Douglas B. McCreary, and he preceded her in death on July 2, 2014.
Deborah graduated from Ross High School and then worked as a tax preparer with H&R Block. She had a love for gardening and found joy in the beauty of flowers. Her life was a testament to devotion-she poured her heart into her children and grandchildren, never missing a single event that mattered to them. She especially cherished family trips, where laughter and togetherness created memories that will be treasured forever.
Survivors include her father, Earl Whirls; daughter, Sabena (Joshuah) Long of Gas City; son, Brandon McCreary; grandsons, Austin Long, Noah Long; granddaughter, Marley McCreary; great-granddaughter, Callie Long; sister, Cynthia (Rocky) Goodlett; and nephew, Sean (Rita) Gray.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy "Winnie" Whirls; and her husband, Douglas B. McCreary.
The family will receive visitors from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St, Gas City, IN.
A funeral service to celebrate Deborah's life will be held at 11:30 am on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, Storey Chapel. Chaplain Les Turner will be officiating with burial following at Marion National Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Heart-to-Heart Hospice 1614 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN 46952 or Cancer Services of Grant County Tower Suites 305 S. Norton Ave., Marion, IN 46952.
