Deborah Anne Monchamp

Monchamp, Deborah (Johnson) Debbie, age 86, left us peacefully on July 25, 2025. Her life was marked by love, service, and devotion to her family, faith, and community. Debbie was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Her strength, wisdom, and kindness touched all who knew her. She will be missed by her five children: Kim Schmitt, Tim (Maureen) Monchamp, Mollie Cooney, Carrie (Joe) Donovan, and Matt (Jeanne) Monchamp. She was the proud grandmother of 12: David & Alex (Tara) Schmitt, Caroline & Danny Monchamp, Jessica (Mikis) Kostorous, Sam (Elly), Sean & Nora Donovan, Sarah (Alex) Christians, Ben, Connor & Bridget Monchamp. Debbie also adored her two great-grandchildren, Walter and Ike Kostorous. Debbie is further survived by her loving siblings, Brett (Colleen) Johnson, Mimi (Kirk) Monger, and sister-in-law, Mary (Denny) Nelson. She was preceded in death by her parents, Willard and Janice Johnson and her grandson, William Monchamp. Debbie held a master's degree in education and dedicated her career to teaching in the Edina School District, where she inspired countless students and colleagues alike. After retiring, she moved to Garrison, MN where she found joy and peace in nature, tending to her garden and enjoying the beauty of the woods and lake. Debbie's giving spirit extended well into her retirement. She volunteered for many years at Wild and Free and the UMN Master Gardner program, served faithfully as an election judge, gave her time to her local food shelf and was an active member of her church community. As a single mother of 5 children, Debbie had boundless energy, attended her children's many activities including, sporting events, concerts and principal office visits. She really enjoyed the time her kids and their friends spent at her house. She was always there to poke fun and laugh. To honor Debbie, plant some flowers, feed an animal, inspire a child, go to church, laugh with friends and hug your family. A funeral mass will be held Wednesday, August 13th at 11AM at St. Thomas the Apostle, 2914 W 44th St. Minneapolis. Visitation starting at 10:00 AM.
