Deborah "Debby" Rose Scott, 73, of Del City, Oklahoma, peacefully passed away the evening of August 5, 2022. She was at home, surrounded by her loving family.
Debby was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Morris and Maurine Long on May 16, 1949. She graduated in 1967 from Midwest City High School in Midwest City, Oklahoma. She married her high school sweetheart, Ray Scott, in August of 1967 at Barbers Point Naval Air Station in Hawaii. She worked 38 years serving as a civilian in many different capacities. She began her career as a GS-2 typist at Hickam Air Force Base in Hawaii, then moved to the Navy Amphib School at Coronado Island off the coast of San Diego, California. In 1970, Debby and Ray decided to move back to Oklahoma to raise their family. Debby then worked in various roles at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma for many years until she retired as a GS-13 Supervisor in
B-52 Technical Services.
Debby's battle with breast cancer began in 2012. When it returned in 2017, she fought her way through many grueling treatments. Debby showed such strength, grace, and determination throughout her battle. She never complained and rarely missed one of her grandchildren's volleyball or soccer games, plays or choir concerts. She was a regular at all school events for her grandchildren and knew most of their teachers well. She had a passion for RVing across the country with Ray at the wheel, and loved to bring the grandchildren along from time to time. She had a thirst for knowledge, especially when it came to history. She had the opportunity to visit many Presidential Libraries and visited so many museums, her family lost count.
Debby is preceded in death by her mother Maurine Long VanAuken, her father Morris Long, her grandparents, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Debby is survived by her loving husband Homer Ray Scott, Jr.; her son Chris Scott; her daughter Dena (Gary) Pride; her sisters Gayle (Alton) Abshure, Joanne Minnie, Vickie (Richard) Emholtz; her sister-in-love Barbara (Doyle) Martin; her beloved grandchildren Haley Scott, Maci Stone, Mallory Stone, Sydney Pride, Madison Pride; and many cherished nieces, nephews and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Blake Abshure, Derek Mason, Billy Cavenee, Garrett Fountain, Wyatt Fountain and Brent Stone.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Debby's name to Oklahoma Project Woman. This local nonprofit organization provides free mammograms, diagnostic procedures and surgical services for Oklahomans with no health insurance and limited financial resources. https://www.oklahomaprojectwoman.org/donate/
The family of Debby wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to Dr. Aleda Toma and her wonderful staff (especially Vickie) at Cancer Specialists of Oklahoma along with all the doctors, nurses and staff at Mercy Hospital ICU and Select Specialty Hospital. Debby's family is forever grateful for the staff at Frontier Hospice who provided so much comfort and support when Debby decided it was time to come home. Special thanks to all of Debby's family and friends for the continued love and support.
