In Loving Memory of Deborah "The Corn Lady" Serrano Gatzke
April 25, 2025
Dudley – With hearts full of sorrow, we share the passing of Deborah Serrano Gatzke, affectionately known as "The Corn Lady." She died peacefully on April 25, 2025. She was surrounded by her devoted family. Deborah left behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and love.
Born on May 10, 1958, in Southbridge, Massachusetts to Harry Morse and Mary Alice Proulx, she built a life defined by hard work, compassion, and a deep commitment to those she loved.
She is survived by her beloved husband and best friend, James A. Gatzke, who stood beside her with unwavering love. She also leaves behind five children: April Daigneault and her husband Jonathan Daigneault, Angel Luis Serrano, Tiffany Lopez and her husband Cesar Lopez, Jessica Gatzke and James Gatzke; each of whom carries her light forward in their own unique ways. Her heart extended across generations to her cherished grandchildren: Stephanie and Kalina Daigneault, Isabella and Ava Serrano, Amelie and Zakai Lopez.
To the community, summertime meant Deb was there smiling, selling corn and vegetables, earning her the endearing nickname "The Corn Lady." Even when her body was in pain, she didn't slow down. She showed up. She worked. She gave. Her candid, sometimes no holds barred nature, work ethic, and boundless kindness were unmatched.
Deb always showed up with grace, strength, and a generous heart. Everyone has a story of how she made them feel valued, and was always present when needed most. Her friends were family, and her home a refuge of warmth.
Deb had a profound love for nature. She enjoyed sunrises, sunsets, waterfalls, and the ocean air. She and Jim always enjoyed an ocean side meal at the Windjammer. Camping, canoeing, and hiking were some of her favorite pastimes. Most of all, she cherished time with family and friends; the guiding light in her life.
Deborah's passing is heartbreaking, but her life remains a beautiful reminder of how to live: with love, courage, generosity, and sincerity. Let's honor her by being more like Deb - showing up, lifting others, and leaving behind trails of kindness that will echo for years to come.
Rest easy, Deb. You were deeply loved. You made a difference, your light will never dim.
Celebration of life will be held on 5/31/2025 from 1:00pm - 5:00pm at the PAV, 30 Ray Street
