Debra Sue Cartmill, aged 65, of Oxford, AL, passed away at UAB Medical Center in Birmingham, AL, on April 24, 2025.
Debra was born in Sioux City, IA, to John and Eva Huser. She worked as a dedicated hairdresser for over 40 years, beginning at the age of 18. In September 1983, she married Douglas Wayne Cartmill, and in 1987 they relocated to Alabama, where they raised their two children. Although they had no close family nearby, Debra and Doug built a strong network of friends who became like family.
She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Eva Huser; her husband, Douglas Wayne Cartmill; and her brother, Pat Huser.
Debra is survived by her daughter, Falynn Raye Cartmill Turley and her Steven; her son, Douglas Lloyd (D.L.) Cartmill, and daughter-in-law, Annette; and her beloved grandchildren, Harrison Wayne Turley (10), Elliette Susann Turley (8), Emma Kate Strange (7), Anna Jayce Cartmill (5), and Avery Drue Cartmill (6 months).
She is also survived by her siblings, Bill Huser (Deb), Cindy Huser Wiess, and her twin brother, Donald Huser (Sherri); as well as her brothers- and sister-in-law from the Cartmill family: Diana "Dee" Osius (Eddie), David Cartmill (Gail), and Derek Cartmill (Sarah). She will be lovingly remembered by her many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service for Debra will be held on May 5, 2025, from 4 PM to 6 PM at The Magnolia House at Cremation Services of East Alabama. All who knew and loved her are welcome to attend.
