Debra Prowell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home, Corsicana on Sep. 15, 2025.
Debra Kay Prowell, 68, of Corsicana, entered the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, September 10, 2025. She was born on September 8, 1957 in Lockney, Texas to Theodore (Ted) and Helen Strange. She was raised in Silverton, Texas with her brother, David, and her sister, DeAnn. Growing up, Debra spent most of her time outside with her animals. She loved to barrel race and spent as much time on the back of her horse as she could. Later, Debra moved to Corsicana, Texas to settle down and raise her family. She devoted her life to raising her four children, Brady, Britney, Taylor and Tate. In 1999, she met the love her life, Mitch Prowell. They married soon after and spent the next 26 years together. She gained 3 more children when she married Mitch, who she loved as much as her own, Scott, Jessica and Kim. After her children got older, she enrolled herself in college and found her calling in teaching. She went on to be the 6th grade math teacher at Stafford Elementary School in Italy, Texas for 20 years. She poured her heart and soul into her students and treated them as her own. She was an amazing teacher and touched the lives of so many people. Aside from her family and students, she was happiest working in her yard. Debra loved pulling weeds from sun up to sun down, sometimes using the car's headlights to keep working after dark. Last year, Debra and Mitch moved into their dream home where together they created the most beautiful yard, their own piece of paradise. She is preceded in death by her dad, Ted Strange, her mother, Helen Strange and her baby brother, Dan Strange. Debra is survived by her loving husband, Mitch Prowell, of Corsicana; her children, Brady Grant, of Corsicana, Britney Fisher and her husband, Logan, of Plano, Taylor Knott and her husband, JT, of Corsicana, and Tate Haynie of Plano; her sister, DeAnn Lurie and her husband, Mitch, of Dallas and her brother David Strange and his wife, Gae, of Amarillo. She is also survived by her bonus children, Scott Johnson and his wife, Dee, of Blooming Grove, Jessica Davis and her husband, Tony, of Blooming Grove and Kim Prowell of Corsicana. Also surviving are the joys of her life, her grandchildren, Brody and Annabelle Grant, Hannah Kayte Knott, Katie, Laci, Lilly, Tucker, Easton, Madison, Makenna, Mason and Eli. She also leaves behind nephews, cousins, friends and so many others that she loved so much. Visitation will be Monday, September 15, 2025 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home in Corsicana, TX, Funeral services will be Tuesday, September 16, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Westhill Church of Christ in Corsicana, TX. Graveside services will be Thursday, September 18, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Silverton Cemetery in Silverton, TX. Pallbearers are Brady Grant, Tate Haynie, Logan Fisher, JT Knott, Scott Johnson and Tony Davis. A special thank you to New Century Hospice for providing such compassionate care. I so enjoyed working with Mrs. Prowell at Stafford. She was "old school" and that was something we shared in common.
May you find comfort in your family, friends, Faith and fond memories.
